Absurdly cheap suburban downtown living

When you think of urban living it’s usually the newer, nicer, and more expensive places you think of, like the million dollar and up condos in downtown Detroit. Even in the suburbs there’s a wide range of prices and styles available with the average price of homes in the area being cheaper than Chicago, more than the smaller Midwestern cities, and just about right for its size. Still, an ad I saw the other day opened my eyes.

Three Suburban Downtown Living Opportunities from the upper $70s

Marshall Place is one and two-bedroom condos half a mile south of the 9 Mile drag of downtown Ferndale. It’s priced from $79,900. Sounds like a deal to live within walking distance of downtown Ferndale.

Birmingham Park is a condo development in posh Birmingham. It’s not in downtown Birmingham although you can walk there, but it’s right at Eton and Maple by the train tracks where the new urban mixed use neighborhood developments are happening. Again, it sounds like quite a deal for Birmingham.

Rochester Ridge condominiums are two bedrooms right by downtown Rochester which at $99,000 is still under a hundred grand.

So there you go. If you can’t afford a place in downtown Detroit but you still crave that urban experience then maybe Ferndale can tide you over for a couple years?
