NFL Youth Education Town In Warrendale

06.14.07 | technician | In sports, polish, middle eastern, neighborhood, warrendale

The long-awaited youth center was unveiled today. The 32,000 square foot NFL/YET Boys & Girls Club facility on the Dick & Sandy Dauch Campus has been completed on the grounds of Gardenview Estates (formerly Herman Gardens).

Well, not exactly today. I’m a bit behind on my Warrendale news, but this has been a long time coming. Herman Gardens used to be a dense housing development and housing project where John De Lorean (the guy who created the car in Back to the Future) and TV judge Greg Mathis lived. Then the entire area was bulldozed and it sat as Detroit’s famous urban prairie for years until now where it has becomea “new $6-million youth center in a new urban living development on Detroit’s west side”.

Warrendale is that neighborhood in northwest Detroit on both sides of Warren Avenue. It is east of Dearborn and west of Dearborn.
