Interest high in recent sale of 2 Riverfront Towers

A sale of two of the three Riverfront Towers has gone through, to a New Jersey-based developer, after 10 proposals from potential buyers were received for the property in a five week period.

Excerpt:

“This is going to remain the primo rental property in Detroit,” said Mark Rohr, a partner in the Birmingham office of Phoenix-based Hendricks & Partners, which brokered the deal. “The feeling was that this is a real bargain, and will be a great long-term investment as Detroit improves.”

DFC begins construction on new Eastern Market HQ

Construction began last week on the renovation of the building that will become the home of the Detroit Film Center. The three-story, 10,000 square-foot former meat packing plant in Eastern Market is located on the service drive of the Chrysler freeway, around the corner from the Flying Apron Bakery.

Anderson says the DFC’s goal is to celebrate the grand opening of its new headquarters the week of October 17, in order to tie it in with this year’s Detroit Docs Film Festival.

This is in the southeast corner of the Eastern Market neighborhood so it is out of the way from most visitors to the market on Saturdays although easily walkable. The Flying Apron Bakery itself is a recent development and hopefully this is a trend of attractions in the Eastern Market that are spread throughout the neighborhood connecting to Gratiot.

Model D TV: Carol Coletta

Carol Coletta of CEOs for Cities sees much potential in the city of Detroit. She also identifies Ann Arbor as being a special resource to Detroit, as a source of people, a job center for Detroiters, and a place to play, the two cities need to make it as easy as possible for people to get from one to the other. She also suggests focusing on density, rationing to strengthen promising and already vibrant neighborhoods to “tighten up the urban fabric” and not waste money where the density isn’t there or close to being there.
