Windsor 20/20, a vision for the future?

12.25.07 | technician | In windsor, film

CBC Windsor is in the middle of a 15 week special on the future of Windsor, an attempt to craft a vision for the city called Windsor 20/20 which I guess could be seen as a play on the year 2020 as well as having perfect eyesight. Here are some of the topics they are covering (warning: the videos are loading very slowly for me):

  • Former Windsorite and leading auto industry analyst Dennis Desrosiers says the biggest roadblock facing Windsor’s success is economic. In his opinion, city officials are not willing to negotiate win-win situations for the city and the investor.
  • Windsor is attracting French-speaking immigrants who want their children to learn in our other official language, but who aren’t Catholic. How do we accommodate these new citizens? We spoke with Denyse Berecz, the principal of Windsor’s only French-language school, École élémentaire L’Envolée.
  • Turning the old Downtown Armoury into a performing arts centre sounds like a far-fetched plan… but we have proof that it can work.
  • Buffalo used to have an image problem, but they overcame it. What lessons can we learn from them to promote civic pride and strengthen Windsor’s national image?
  • One of Windsor’s greatest assets is the diversity of our population. But it’s an asset that has been largely undeveloped. Here’s Pat Jeflyn with a look at a made-in-Windsor vision for capitalizing on one of the most important trends of the 21st century: global migration.
  • How could movie making have an impact on this community? Kim Kristy made a mini-movie about the emerging movie business in Windsor.
