Big news from Transportation Riders United (TRU): Michigan is about to open its first dedicated HOV (High Occupancy Vehicle) lanes. It’s a step forward in smartly managing traffic by encouraging people to share cars. Many other metropolitan areas already have these, also called carpool lanes. They encourage people to carpool because the lane has less traffic and moves much more quickly. In related news there is going to be express bus service between downriver communities and downtown Detroit. There is going to be a press conference and ribbon cutting for those who are interested.
Unveiling Michigan’s first HOV lanes and special new bus routes

Transit in Southeast Michigan is about to take a giant step forward!! You’re invited to attend a press conference, ribbon cutting and inaugural ride to announce the historic opening of the State of Michigan’s first dedicated HOV (High Occupancy Vehicle) Traffic Lane. They will also announce the new Gateway Express bus service provided by SMART and DDOT to help commuters traveling between Downriver and Detroit’s Central Business District avoid traffic congestion during MDOT’s I-75 Ambassador Bridge Gateway Construction Project.
